This deosn't only look absolutely flippin' fantsatic as an illustration but also has feathered dinosaurs from the dromaeosauridae family tree in it!
I'm sold!
This is gorgeous. I've just purchased the game, and it's awesome. Highly recommended.
Beautiful cover in an amazing color palette! I already have my copy of the game. I have counted the days, and now it's finally out there. The game has a true Amiga feeling and looks awesome. Best luck with the game but I have some feeling that you don't need it. Tower 57 will be (and already is) a big hit.
EDIT: I would ask you two questions; which program do you use for pixel art and how long have you worked on game development? The project (Tower 57) looks monstrously large...
I'll definitely be picking this up. You must have put a huge amount of work into this! It looks great; you deserve a lot of sales!
At last, the game with true pixel art is released. Great artwork :)
P.S. When I was typing this comment I forgot about Owlboy, sorry...
@elend
yeah please do, if you like what you see =)
@Yrizoud
Yeah that's true, my colors are usually on the cooler side of the spectrum with a lot of an oily feeling to them. It's just a preference of mine. Although I have to say with tower that's not really different.
That bit about the blue shadows are an interesting thing, maybe I am understanding you wrong, since I guess I stopped using strong blue backlights in 2014. Now most of my shadows are either green, gray or purple.
I mean it also could depend on the game you look at (Tower 57, The Mummy Demastered, Shadows of Adam, ... or even my personal art )
I think all of those projects games have a unique personality in terms of style to them.
But yeah, you got me really curious =)
@BananaExtract
yeah it's nice to take the time to balance this out. Sadly it takes a whole lot of time too.
Thanks a lot, I appreciate, that you appreciate the depth =)
@Doyoudigworms
Actually i posted a fair bit of stuff during the development on my twitter, and plenty of things in the last 2 weeks.
Of course you always have a lot more insight after creating a game, especially if you never created a whole one from scratch before.
So yeah I learned a great deal of thigs, but nothing I could say without a specific question.
@JerryPie
We could argue days over what people think and it wouldn't lead to change.
I let those people just happily play EA and Ubisoft games and let them pay 300 bucks for incomplete experiences with lootcrates ;)
@Fleja
It's actually because the logo and the artwork use 2 different palette sets. i guess i painted the main artwork with about 64 or so. Seperating the depths and getting that airbrush painterly feel of the era just takes more colors.
While low color counts are for a reason promited in pixelart-communities, I think there is no problem with having a lot, as long as one manages to handle them. The decisions on clusters would be about the same, even with less colors. I think it doesn't really matter, because this one here isn't about "look what i made with just x colors" it's about the painting.
The only problem is that a lot of time goes into it and that with less colors you sually can achieve a similar effect much faster.
But well those extra hours didn't really matter anymore after the long time the project took.
@Airstyle
Bioshock with tophats? Yeah that pretty much nails it.
Aw man, gotta buy this asap. This game looks simply gorgeous.
God, I love this so much -- perfect amount of contrast between the colors, and the smoothness of the drawing in general is really nice and pleasing to the eyes -- not too much so that it's blurry, but enough so that the person viewing it has a better understanding of the depth. :) Anyhoo, great job friendo!
Wonderful art! I've been following development of this title (post-kickstarter) and will purchase soon! Congrats! Extremely inspiring work. Out of curiousity, do you have any links regarding development notes or perhaps some insightful comments on the all the work put into the game?
Congrats dude. The game looks so good and the cinematics are unbelievable.
And a price tag that is shockingly low. It really makes me sad that gamers undervalue the hard work that goes into creating something like this.. (but that's a whole other topic). Congrats again!!
I love this cover - theres so much to appreciate in it!
The color count is 94 if you wanted to add that to te bio but just didnt feel like counting, or maybe you knew that but its a large number so you ddecided not to - or neither and idk
would've been ironic if you only used 57 colors though haha
even though its a lot of colors, It still feels like pixleart, there are just a lot of assets to account for
Ok so Im kinda rambling now - Nice drawing and I really hope this makes it somewhere in monthly top which it probably will -
what I like the most is the vegetation particularly in the top and in the greass, its really nicely textured - and the stone textures around them accent them well
the background is really gorgeous and I cant say Ive sen on like it befor ein pixel art - the coft colors slowly fade into view to form a sortve lab area
really reminds me of Jurassic Park
love the theme and great work as always Cyangmou!
Oh, well this is even more impressive! XD. Excellent work. It kind of gives me a Bioshock-esque feel...but with a tophat.
@yrizoud
this might be a style thing in terms of decisionmaking.
Now I am of course inquisitive what tendencies you are talking about.
Tower just had the goal of looking like the sweet spot between Metal Slug and Chaos Engine.
GUess it's just a question of style preference =)
Thanks a lot.
I saw the news of release on GoodOldGames, immediately looked for the responsible artist(s), and was pleasantly surprised that it was you. I generally recognize your works on PJ by some tendencies / design choices that I disagree with, and none of it is present in Tower 57. This is better than anything you had ever drawn. Congratulations, and I wish you the best of luck for the sales !
Somehow PJ had a bug and uploaded the preview instead of the actual artwork.
I exchanged thi snow, after remarking it.
Cool landscape.
