Quick challenge entry.
Pretty sure it fits C64 multicolour bitmap mode restrictions: widepixel, with 4 colours per 8x8 character.
E: changed palette, fixed stray 5 colour characters.
As far as I know/remember there was also another catch. The background colour needs to be the same across all cells. But it does look like that's also respected. Top notch! Very nice pixel art.
Very nice. I'm a sucker for this kind of details. Very good use of the palette.
I typically do not like the wise pixel style, but this is very appealing.
here you go :)
The frozen shark is smiling! I love it.
There is still 1 error left on the fin on the right close to that 2 dark grey pixel diagonal line.
Okay, I *think* I've found all the 5 colour characters using DB's Grafx2 script, so it should be proper MCOL now. Also opted for your version of the palette, on reflection I prefer the lower contrast.
Yes please to the executable / csdk.dk, that'd be great :)
God that looks so neat - that is incredible precision work, and great Shark illustration! c:
Yeah, I know about the pepto stuff, also his latest thing is colodore.com. He mentions that on there as well.
My palette really is just an adjusted version of the old pepto palette to make it a tad brighter.
There are still some errors, not that many. If you want I can make a C64 executable from this (using MCOL + sprite overlay) And also if you want I could add it to csdk.dk
Thanks for spotting the cyan dupe – not sure how that happened!
I realised the proper border was too big for the challenge, so trimmed 17px from each side. For the palette, I used Pepto's 2017 version, which is a lot more vibrant. Not sure if you've seen it / have any thoughts on its accuracy – keen to hear them.
Here's it is using your palette, with the proper border.
I like this a lot.
However, there seem to be some mistakes as far as C64 restrictions go. Since the size of the border is not equal on all sides it is also hard to guess what the original 320x200 area is. Even if the image should not be possible in pure MCOL, it could be done with MCOL plus a sprite overlay.
You also have a duplicate cyan. The one that is less used is more correct, since the cyan and the light grey should be close in brightness (same luma)
Damien Hirst can jump off a cliff but this is good stuff.
Really nice work!
Holy shit man! You've really upped the game with this one, wonderful.
