Sorry crabby, but I have to take your piece down; it was reported by 4 different users. Don't get us wrong though, as we actually do like this piece, it's just because of the high quantity of NPA elements, which is not something we want to actively promote or encourage here.
But regardless, welcome to Pixel Joint We think you are a fine artist and hope you like it here!
Thank you so much! ^_^ Indeed, I have gotten the impression that the rules of pure pixel art are very important here. Most of the time I try to follow the rules, but sometimes they are a hindrance on productivity for when I have a lot to get done every day. Kudos to all the pixel artists out there that do it exactly right!
Hello,
I think Pixel Joint has recently just become "more liberal" about accepting NPA elements; it may be just that. It is a still a fine piece, but the community is used to seeing very little exception to pure pixel art here.
That being said..I love the character (especially the feet, hair and palette) and the little sprites inside the bubbles.
Thank you! Yeah, unfortunately this scene has a lot of layers with gradient shapes. It actually took a while to achieve the look I was happy with and gradients and blending layers happened to be what worked the best. If I could easily go back and turn it into a dithered effect and use an approach which produced less colours, I would try it, but it's not worth the time or headache to "fix" what I consider a fine piece of art I'm proud of. Let's call it mixed media and give me a bad mark for not working within the limitations of true pixel art. My bad, sorry guys! Hope you still like it. :)
Very cool composition. The gradients in the background are not pixel art however! You should fix it!!
It is not up to me to decide if it is accepted or not: but I suggest you to reduce the colors of the background layer (I understand that you don't want to work on it anymore, but I think you can at least use an automated tool for this) :)
Thanks again for your input. As mentioned in another comment, these larger works are for a client who has already signed off and used them in their music videos, so I’m not likely to make changes at this point. What you say is good from a purist perspective, and if this work isn’t acceptable here for that reason, so be it.
It's very nice but the background colors are made with a too-smooth gradient and are not pixelart... you should fix it... and pay attention to transparence in bubbles too, keeping the number of colors under control...
(you are now using 9623 colors... you could make them less than 50)
That’s unfortunate, but I don’t plan to revise my work and I will delete this piece permanently. If you liked the piece, feel free to find me on other platforms as I will have it there somewhere in most cases. I’m sorry if my art has offended anyone.
