This is a slight comeback actually.  I've learned over the last several months that you cannot rely on motivation for anything in life.  Especially Pixels.  Sure, it's nice to have, but it wanes far too often to be reliable.  Now, discipline... THAT's the real kicker!  To do something only disciplined could be half-hearted.  To do something only motivated could be half FINISHED.  You definately need both to a degree.  And thus leads into this project.

Inspiration for this piece call from the movie of the same name starring Richard Boone.  I'm all for scientific accuracy, don't get me wrong, but im a sucker for some campy 70s man-in-a-monster-suit dino action.

I hope it's not REALLY the last dinosaur I ever do.  I really enjoyed working on it.  In all honesty, though, I didn't spend nearly enough time on it as I normally try to.  I created the palette before even having an idea, which is a change for me.  But it really made me focus on form when the idea did come.  It's really a practice in palette control and extreme hue shifting with a slice of the odd psycho technique thrown in for good measure so I wasn't AS worried about the final piece's dimension.

Still, I hope you enjoy it!  Keep improving and make your palettes and own them!  Keep experimenting and shifting them hues!  See you next time.  xD  xD  xD.

*Revised 2-14-18*  I cleaned up some of the clusters on the face and tail details and "organized" the "stars" a little better.  He was originally intended to be coming out of a cave (which is something that happens in the source material and also the intention of the lighting coming from the right), but I started doodling and made some stars by accident using the palette and wanted to use them.  I hope they're not too busy.  Maybe I'll come back and take them out altogether.  I dunno.  Hmmmm, I wonder....... oh well.  x)

*Update*  Last revision, I SWEAR!  Took the stars out completely.  Why clutter it up when the Dino is what I want you to look at.  Just look at it!  So this is it's purest form.  Did a few things on the mouth and teeth too, but mostly the stars.  So now you can imagine him coming out of that cave I mentioned earlier.  There you have it!

it looks much better without the stars but the background does feel a bit empty (maybe some indications of a rocky terrain to help give it that cave-y feel some single color cluster might work just fine)
when I make pixel art I always tend to make the 1X size look
great but end up making the zoomed up version look well no so great so I totally get that part of the design although I think finding a good balance is the key
but to each his own

Thanks for sharing, pixeldust!  I get what you're saying and I agree.  I just want to improve.  The process of improvement means something different for everyone individually I suppose, but the concept remains the same for everyone.  Just do it!

As for the stars; Do you think I should add them back in (I tend to make several versions so I'm sure I still have the one that was up) or leave it?  I probably should've made a w.i.p. thread, but I really wanted to get this up.  That was the reason I took them out, but my mind struggled as to whether I should or not.  I wanted to keep them, but felt, by adding, I was really talking away from the final piece.  I appreciate the feedback.  I like pieces that are great at 1x but get fuzzier the closer you zoom, so maybe I'm on to something.  Maybe I'll use them solely to make a future project.

Determination versus motivation
it's a quality that we all have and yet also lack to a degree
for almost any artistic skill motivation is probably the thing that drives one to follow down that path usually striving for a much bigger picture but that quickly falls apart without a good sense of determination you can keep telling your self that you want to paint just like Picasso but doing that alone won't get you to that level, not even close

Discipline and perseverance is what makes most great artist in the way of progress
at least without that you'd just be stuck creating the same thing over and over
you can spend all your time drawing circles making it look as good as a circle can but in the end that is all that it is
instead, break that circle make it an oval add in some triangles maybe some extra broken circles and Bam you end up with an airplane even if it is bad I'd still be good in the name of progress
well enough nonsensical rambling

I wanted to make a comment about the stars (about how it looks good when viewed at 1x but becomes overwhelming when zoomed in ) but they got removed from the piece whilst writing this comment

and if anything it is good to see you being active again
