An avatar for another forum.  It didn't come out as I thought it would, but I thought i'd show it to ya'll anyway.

UPDATE : changed 'blotches' into craters, changed design of stars and added a bit more detail.

You need to show craters not blotches, and it has too many stars. Also, you aa too far in the lighter color. Give it a lightsource too, to add interest.
