Hello to you, Squirrelsquid, and great to meet you as well; thank you so much for the quite splendid comment!!! ;)
By the way, all the rendering you are talking about for this pixel-art piece of mine was entirely done by hand, pixel-by-pixel... from start to finish. And if I were a demoscener myself and presented this originally at a demoscene party to begin with, it SURELY would have utterly rocked and everybody would have been screaming from the rooftops in such a supremely joyous way indeed like no other. But thankfully, you are *genuinely* seeing this work here on PixelJoint clearly as my way of showing you something unusually damn fascinating in my own hand-crafted, newer and newer pure-pixel artworks as well as presenting my own original palettes like my AAP-64 one — and that very palette of mine there indeed was used thoroughly in its flat-out entirety in the overall creation of “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version”, as said in my original description of this work above. Absolutely compelling stuff on my very first try at pixel-art here at PJ, you know that!?
Again, thank you so rather, RATHER much for quite the wonderful comment indeed, Squirrelsquid, and you got some *truly* plain outstanding pixel art yourself on PJ, let’s get that right in an awesomely good way, too!!!
This is all very interesting, and I'm glad you took my critique well! I love being able to help. I am currently having a fantastic weekend too, btw. I do look forward to seeing more from you. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Good luck!
And thank you so much for the truly fine welcome, skeddles... GREAT to meet you, also!!!
Thank you so much for the honesty and the constructive critique, ArmyFrog, and such a pleasure meeting you as well. ^^
Now, seeing as I have officially worked this pixel-art piece in an interesting 2x1 pixel-ratio format, you are most especially correct about both the trees and mountains in that I am to be more careful in avoiding the dreaded jaggies that can sometimes sneak and pop up here and there as I create my pixel-based works. I have just now gotten back into creating pixel art lately since late-2017 when I first signed on to Twitter as one of my main go-tos for showcasing my own latest pixel artworks, pixel-art palettes, and digital paintings as well.
Going back to “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version”, ArmyFrog, it was a rather tough piece for me to pull off successfully, given 1) the huge risks of using a wide-pixel format that I had to work with in its fullest entirety; and 2) reworking and vastly improving all of the VITALLY important key details in pure, natural, hand-created, pixel-by-pixel form — like the softest, active, ever-yielding, and gluily viscous melted quicksands of quite soothingly-hot tar and its many gummy bubbles alike in this picture, and most especially the living female native spirit of La Brea Woman that slowly rises from the thick, quite heavy, and most silkily-weaving black ooze indeed as she is being wholly and thoroughly resurrected into a brand-new life as well with her head tilted back, blissfully smiling in pure intense happiness all the while!! ;*)
So all and all, that piece was *quite* a rather interesting experiment for me in terms of overall pixel-art creation and what theme I was specifically going for all along: resurrection and rebirth. That was what this was truly all about, when it clearly came to the overall execution I was mainly going for here indeed in this entire pixel artwork. That is all. (^-^)v
Having said all of the above, I once again thank you so much for your input on this picture of “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version”... and I truly wish you quite a great weekend, ArmyFrog!!! ;)
Very impressive work. The reflections are surreal.
Welcome to PJ!
This would slay at a demoparty. really good rendering. Dithering is excellent. Kudos!
I love the retro colors and style, but watch out for jaggies, especially in the mountains and trees. The rest of the piece is real smooth, so those areas are distracting.
Why thanks indeed, jackhummer, and most wonderful to have you as well!!! SPLENDIDLY appreciated, as hard work done right sure pays off big-time, doesn’t it now? :D
Thank you so much for the constructive input, railslave, and yes, I will be taking your critcism into consideration... even for my pixel-art creations going forward as well. I know that this piece of mine was quite a very difficult pixel-based design to create — all things taken into account as was said from my description itself — especially since I have just gotten back into working with pixel art once again. It has sure been years!
If there is one surefire thing that you and I can take away from this, “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version” was certainly an interesting challenge, even for me, and while it is not perfect, I am pretty much glad you enjoyed this demake a lot more than my 2008 original... and with that, I thank you once again, because that is where it all counts!! ;)
And, great to meet you as well. ^^
Thank you so much as well, frikicat, and for my first pixel-art released on PJ, I must say that that is quite an excellent little comment coming from you on this piece... wonderfully said, by the way!!! ;)
It will definitely be in the hall of fame. you have outdone yourself, and I know you will be one of the best.
Love the colors in the burst bubble far right ! and striking picture in general.I enjoy this 100% more than the original.
Some crit:
-Face seems very flat,
-Trees are kind of jarring, there color sort of takes attension away a bit.
-Top right bubble perspective is a bit weird.
Actually, PixelDust, my AAP-64 palette is freely available for to use at anytime. Period. ;) It is a 64-color palette, in fact, that I have made on my own since October 2017. Come to think of it now, I will definitely present a lot more about that palette itself here on PJ in a form of another brand-new pixel-art from me this weekend.
Back to my current artwork of “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version”, I thank you truly so much for the rather wonderful comment. As for the rendering that you are talking about, it is all in the fact that I have carefully crafted and laid all the pixels by hand for over about a year-and-a-half, as the official start date for me first beginning that piece from the ground up was actually Friday, October 07, 2016, believe it or not. Yep, that was indeed how long it seriously took me to thoroughly create this pixel-art demake... and believe me, it took a whole helluva lot of dedication to the craft of pixel artistry for me to pull this one off. And on top of that, the fact that it was done in an actual wide-pixel format really makes things a ton more exciting for you, doesn’t it now? :D
And, did I even mention that this is actually my *very* first full-fledged pixel artwork piece ever released on PixelJoint, not counting my own avatar here? Think about it!!! (^-^)v !!
absolutely brilliant I did not even notice it was made using 2-wide pixel until I read the description
although the concept is relatively simple, the rendering brings the piece to a whole new level
as a person whole loves playing with all thing color
I'd loved to be able to play around with your "AAP-64"
is it commercially available to use?
First of all about the dithering that was used in the making of “La Brea Woman Awakening - The AAP-64 Final Version”, JeffSturm4nn, I thank you so much for brilliantly pointing that out; TOTALLY well said!!!
All of the custom, precise 50% dithering patterns for this picture were painstakingly done by hand completely from me, and even then, it was certainly nowhere even near close to easy period to pull that insanely daunting feat off right there, let alone on my very first go, too... but when you take into account that I had to do it all all the way through in a wide-pixel format over the overall course of literally more than a single year alone straight, it becomes a whole ENTIRELY different ballgame on an utter new level, I gotta rather tell you!! However, when you pull it all off successfully in a single pixel-art, it unmistakingly gives quite a vastly striking, stunningly convincing illusion of giving even truly more colors than it actually has — *especially* while keeping the overall color count low. ;) To show you what I am thoroughly talking about, ladies and gentlemen, do check out this great example right here in this brilliant pixel-art article by Paul Oliver for Medium that shows us how dithering is to be correctly used indeed. Great fun to read this one through and so simple to understand!!
So all in all, yeah, I LOVED how this pixel artwork turned out in the end just in order to make this one an outstanding key show-piece for my own AAP-64 palette. And it is those little damn artistic touches and nuances to this picture that made it all totally more than worthwhile, I must say as well, JeffSturm4nn!!!
Thank you so rather splendidly much again, my man, and it is great seeing you indeed!!! (^-^)v
