A smaller palette is good practise in general, it helps to make your art coherent and makes it easier to make adjustments. Looking at palettes is also one way for us to check if pixel art seems handmade or computer generated. Duplicate colors are colors that are visually nearly identical but slightly different, therefor they will boost your color count without doing much to the artwork.
Nice drawing, but watch out, this work has a lot of duplicate colors! (98 color in total). Future work with such messy palettes might not get in the gallery!
