I made this kind of based on the bookshelves you can find in Seiken Densetsu 3 or Final Fantasy VI or Chrono Trigger.

Looking good! One suggestion: depending on your light source, I recommend coloring the top surfaces of the shelf lighter than the side facing the viewer. This will give it more of a 3D look
