Yeah i already know the design is a bit busy with all the detail. If i were to use something other than flat shading for the platforms they would probably blend in more, so i left them simpler. I've already reduced the contrast on the reds before, but maybe messing around with the colors a bit would help
At first glance the level design looks "scrambled", you have to study the image in detail in order to make out the platforms as a path (including jumps). I think this is because the playing area uses simple "flat" shapes, while the background has texture and contrast - and red is a vibrant color, while grey doesn't jump to the eye as much.
You know, if you take away the lava, this level design would be a fun parkour course for a game show.
