Hello everyone,
I made a remake of a Carcassone tile (a tile-based board game), in a theme of the Casbah (Algeria) which is: "a unique kind of medina, or Islamic city. It stands in one of the finest coastal sites on the Mediterranean, overlooking the islands where a Carthaginian trading-post was established in the 4th century BC."
To see the difference between my artwork and the original artwork of the game Carcassonne: https://imgur.com/7BoDgpq
And if you are confused of what you are looking at, here is a picture that shows you the view in the real world: https://imgur.com/a1dTuCQ
The reason I'm doing this is because I created an online game that is a clone of the Carcassonne board game, and because I'm not allowed to use their artwork for copyrights reasons I had to do one by myself and because I'm not an artist I thought I would try to make it in pixelart although I'm still a very beginner and this is my second pixelart work.
So what do you guys think? This is just the first tile and I don't know honestly to whether proceed to work on the other tiles or not, so I would be happy to read your feedback. |
I'm sure it's challenging at several levels, but I advise you to carry on. The end result is a very specific number of tiles, and even though you'll find room for improvement, it will be complete and usable.
One thing you could rework as soon as possible is the general lighting, ie. the average color of ground, walls, roofs. The green is very saturated, I feel this looks more like Ireland in a cloudy day (ie. any day) than Algeria in a sunny day. You can search online for 'aerial <place>' to get photographs, it should help you compare with what you draw. You will probably want less saturated colors overall, ie. colors where R G and B are closer to each other.
