Oh boy, it's quite a long time ago since I did some pixel art just for fun... *sigh* Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied so far. This is my first submission on pixeljoint. I made it to get rid of the no-avatar picture. I hope to manage to do some finetuning soon (e.g. adding a waving tie). 8 frames. Hope you like it

-------------

UPDATED: added and improved (hope so) some things: turned head a bit away from viewer, added waving red tie (although the revers i liked so much isn't that much visible anymore because of that), leant upper body a bit front to improve impression of running, pitched up framespeed a little (though it doesn't seem to show - is there a limitation?) and finetuned some pixels here and there... I think that's about all .

Desk clerk running behind time -> Extremley cool character!

gorgothon destroyer (Level 1 Depressed) at 3/26/2007 1:37:07 AM
oooh... but i would shorten the tie and add more shading to the rest of his body. also, the guy below has a very good idea....

it reminds me of this game I played where you run around as an alien in disquise and pull pranks on people to collect coins... it was wierd but cool as this is likewise :)

Good job. He looks great!

Something that may be an interesting test is to offset the head rotation animations so it moves against the arm movement. In other words, when his right arm is extended forward, make his head look right (his right) instead of left. This may create too much cross-movement, but it is always something I play with in my animations.

NobleClock, it requires some skills also to do such a fine dudes like Imagician have done.

Nice update btw. Looks a lot more like running. Liked him more without a tie and walking though.

You should do more animations like this.

The 5 o'clock shadow is a cute touch. XD

NobleClock (Level 2 Corporal) at 7/2/2006 6:37:33 PM

jusging by your other pixel art it really doesnt look like you drew it, because you always use the lil dudes. But everyone can change their style. Well done, favourited

It's awsome!!!I love the 3D look and the animation

Imagician (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 6/27/2006 4:11:49 PM
@ Faktablad: Actually he already bounces (look at his head or the curl of hair above his forehead for example), but maybe you're right and it's just not enough yet. I wouldn't add more frames, since it's nicely ... "symmetrical" (?!) now (all frames have same duration etc.). Maybe pushing his body forward each time he just touched the ground is a good idea, but maybe it would also lose a bit of it's smoothness then. I'm gonna try I think.

Faktablad (Level 6 SWAT) at 6/27/2006 4:04:56 PM
I agree that it's more like power-walking than running.  Here's a tip: when you run, there are points where neither of your two feet are touching the ground at the same time, whereas when you are walking, at least one of your feet touches the ground at all times.  If you want to make it look like he's running, or perhaps jogging, he should make some bounces in the air up and forwards (I think the bouncing would match his character).  Also, make the frames where he's pushing off of the ground faster, and add more frames in between his little "bounces", this will add more action and energy into the animation.

OK, that was me being constructive.  Now for the praise: I really love the characterization on this guy!  The animation itself is superbly well done, and the way you animated his head gives it a nice 3D look.  Keep at it.

Echt tolle Animation. Weich, flüssig, außerdem gefällt's mir, wie du es geschafft hast, keine Details bei der Kopfbewegung zu verlieren. Richtig toll ;)

And for our non-German friends, the very same comment again in English:
Great animation. It's smooth, fluid and I especially like how there's no loss of details at the head while it moves. Really great ;)

Nice palette and shading .

kaltsu (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 6/26/2006 5:55:47 PM
Head direction disturbed me at first but then I thought he´s just looking at some hot chicks while walking and showing off.

Tried to make running look more like running myself but I think the guy lost all his charm on the way. Some of smoothness also: http://www.kaltsu.net/roina/pixelguy_run_001.gif

Well nevermind. You have good looking animation going on there. Who cares is he running or walking.

Tremulant (Level 6 Hitman) at 6/26/2006 5:45:36 PM
I like this, generally. Nice palette, smooth movement, good design... my only crit is that it looks more like a power-walking guy than a running guy.

Neatpuppy (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/26/2006 5:31:28 PM

I think the face is still looking too much towards the viewer's direction.  I don't necessarily think that's your problem because I suffer from the exact same bug in my current work.  I am beginning to suspect it might be our scale?  It is hard to produce matching sequential images within our scale without losing the resemblence somewhere inbetween the extremes.  Overall, nicely animated and I like your color choice. Please do repost if you manage to solve your head perspective problem!

Shark (Level 1 Jukyu) at 6/26/2006 5:05:53 PM
nah dont listen to him... this rocks XD. The glasses look fine... infact look good and add to the cartoony feel. love the whole feel of it... just seems kinda natural. his back leg looks kinda awkward on one or two of the frames, and we should see more of his left arm.... other than that great job :D

Imagician (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 6/26/2006 4:38:29 PM
Doesn't look like running? How can that be ?! I don't get it. I was actually more afraid, the head would be too much looking into the viewers direction... don't you think?

kaltsu (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 6/26/2006 4:18:31 PM
Very dandy and funky! Love the rhythm, clear outlines and colors. Don't look like running though? Glasses pops out too much? Maybe a softer color for them?

Draco9898 (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/26/2006 3:35:53 PM
very good...! I like the fore-shortening
