Simple but nice :). I used to do stuff like that with Deluxe Paint II ages ago using a trend palette and the brush in shade mode, F5-key I think... (man, I still remember ... "mem'ries light the corners of my mind..."). Anyway, I think the timing is somehow strange. The "shockwave-layer" (don't know, what to call it) happening completely _before_ the blast feels a little wrong to me. Maybe you should have a look at the first part of "Second Reality" ;)
