You know, having the pallette colors as the background is an astounding idea :)
9th color is black but that wouldn't go well and black is default color anyway so good choice for leaving it out.
Just realised that if you are enough skilled and creative, you can make pixel art look like hand drawn cartoon made in Xerox technology.
