Quick doodle that turned out well so I finished it up. Probably inspired by the Amstrad CPC version of The Addams Family -- certainly the coloring matches it. I was thinking of Fairlight, too!

I absolutely love this piece to bits! It's good to see people like you streching the styles of pixel art. The use of colours is great, usually I'd only see something like this in a painting, so great job!
I used colors from a fixed 27-color palette that is a rebalanced L*a*b colorcube[1] -- 2 greys are available, plus black and white. many of the colors are from reflections. I'm iffy about the purple-blue, and the red on the candle. Anyway.. telling you exactly how you're supposed to feel about the colors would be counterproductive -- just that it's supposed to be paintlike and moody or dramatic.
If it's a ref pic you mean, I've looked around and the few screenshots I can find offhand aren't really representative of what I mean.
[1] With some of the balancing, it is a strong improvement on the 27-color palette the Amstrad CPC used, while encouraging the same vivid coloring style.
The way it's drawn is actually pretty cool. I like the shape of the candle and everything. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about the colors, though.
