Okay, some of you may be thinking... 'what the bloody hell is larwick doing?!' but it's okay, i am sane.

My new site, kindly hosted by Ensellitis, will have this as part of the navigation. 'How will that work?' you say, well... because some people suggest each half of the brain deals with different things, such as one side for arty stuff and the other for more mathimatical and logical problems. Well, as we all know, people recognise me with my bombs, so i had to include that, and i thought i'd freak it up a little and slap a throbbing brain inside. The right side will link to my arty things, and the left to the other stuff.

Has taken me a while, but i'm very pleased with the result. This is just a taster of the animations involved in the final thing. Should have 18 colours, but there seems that another has snuck in there. I'll have to fix that later. And don't worry about the black outline of the bomb, it looks fine on the actual site layout.

Thanks to the guys on the IRC for helping me and pushing me to finish this. <3

Update
- Slightly different palette, and some secondary lighting (which comes from the header image). Some stray colours and pixels have been fixed, and the outer edge has been AAd to the background, so it looks nicer. I also tried to fix the first opening frame, and added detail to the fuse. I hope you can see it as an improvement.

You can find the older version here.

Whoa, nicely and smoothly done.

And yes, "what in the bloody hell IS larwick doing?!"

Larwick, you bastard. I never commented on this, because I was so amazed on how damn good it was. One could even say I was...jealous. The detail of this is forkin' professional. Just for that, I'm totally faving it.

very nice animations fav!

user
Setzer (Level 8 Cannibal) @ 7/13/2006 04:54
the first version's outlines looked fine; but on this one it's uber-jaggy around the edges =(. other than that I'd say it's an improvement.

Thanks for the comments dudes.

@Faktablad: Damn! You're right! I completely missed that. It looks very odd when you look closer. I didn't spend much time getting the perspective and such right, as i found it very hard, so i just sketched it out very.. sketchily. I'll fix that up when i can. Cheers for the heads-up.
@Setz: Unfortunately without flash skills i'm unable to keep the bomb throbbing once opened, as the opened frame can't animate, or the file size would be huge, and it would eventually stop. Perhaps it would work if i made it close up again after a while... i suppose i could give it a try.

Thanks again. And for the faves :)

I think a more steady throb could help it [as in, it keeps throbbing as the doors open/close instead of open, throb, close, repeat. I am not doubting your bombiness.

user
Faktablad (Level 6 SWAT) @ 7/9/2006 21:06
The perspective of the closing doors looks off on the frame just before it closes.  Think of the perspective, the wedge of darkness that we can see should be quite a bit thinner.  (Hope I'm making sense).  Otherwise fantastic, can't wait to see the finished site.

I really love it. The throb is sexy.

Greate idea, greate realisation. 6/6

user
Larwick (Level 8 Tengu) @ 7/9/2006 05:18
Cheers everyone! Glad you guys like it.

@kaltsu&jal: Yeah, it does look like the squidgy bits are being pressed against something on the outside, i'll giive them some 'pillowshading' (in the most amazing way i can) and see how it looks for ya.
@krysis: Lol uhuh, i thought that too, almost looks like he's wearing headphones or something

user
Krysis (Level 6 Serial Killer) @ 7/9/2006 00:26
I love it... but fi you squint a little and bend your head it allmost looks like Pac-Man.

user
Scruffs (Level 7 Assassin) @ 7/9/2006 00:04
ha yea, i love the contrast of the bomb, and the animation is smooth as silk.  Go larwick  =)

user
DJD (Level 4 Button Man) @ 7/8/2006 23:03
Wow, original and sexy. :D

user
jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) @ 7/8/2006 22:55
This is a great idea! I understood it all from the title alone. Like kaltsu, I also think the brain looks very flat. Even if the menu items were to come out from it and partially hide it, I would add some dimention to the ridges in the brain gut. Because secondary lighting would not work in a tranparent based webby. Pillow shaing may be the thing to do    <----- You're also known for that

Tis really nice. Nice work chap

user
kaltsu (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 7/8/2006 19:44
Excellent. Brains seems a little flat though? Maybe some pillowshading (!) on the creases?

user
Bifur (Level 1 Rookie) @ 7/8/2006 18:48
dither! xD really nice light work

user
Larwick (Level 8 Tengu) @ 7/8/2006 18:31

Thanks InfernoMan.EXE ^_^

And yeah MoD, i spose i did sorta lack in the dithering... but i thought it looked okay in 1x zoom so i didn't bother expanding on it. Perhaps i will, who knows

user
Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 7/8/2006 18:25
The 50% solid dither just doesn't do it justice here, and I was trying to subtley suggest that you use some more varied dithershades there.

user
InfernoMan.EXE (Level 3 Hatchikyu) @ 7/8/2006 18:13
I knew they were bolts the first tim ei saw them! o, and its awsome

user
Larwick (Level 8 Tengu) @ 7/8/2006 18:09
Thanks guys.

@MoD: Really? I'm not sure how else i would have done it, if you can, tips on that would be helpful (from anyone).
@Twisted: Nah, they're meant to be screws/bolts. Anyone else think it's not obvious enough?

user
Twisted (Level 1 Quiet One) @ 7/8/2006 18:05
what are those two dots near the top? eyes?

user
Monkey 'o Doom (Level 11 Psychopath) @ 7/8/2006 18:00
6/7 amazing concept, but the dither of the darkest bomb shade is too uniform.

user
Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) @ 7/8/2006 17:42
9/9 beautiful work, this will make a great nav
