Ok so here is the CC part. In your reference the image achives this flat perspective by framing the moon, theyre all around it with a bit of negative space for the moon itself. This is a common and popular technique in a lot of art when wanting to grab someones attention to a specific point in the image. Try working on a larger canvas and framing the moon with a cloud cover around it. You should get a better result, you will also have to give up having stars in your scene as they dont help to convey the flat perspective youre going for.
I looked at different photos on google images like this one image.shutterstock.com/image-photo/moon-between-clouds-black-white-450w-59025262.jpg where it looks like the moon is in front of the clouds - it's an artistic choice. I know technically it's not possible for the moon to be in front of the clouds ...
only one criticism... or more a quesiton. Why is the cloud on the left partially behind the moon?
