coincidentally, a large portion of the palette choice was to restrict myself only to using NES colors (albeit i used several different palette variants that were slightly different in saturation/value, but they all came from the same system) to see how much utilization i could get out of them
it wound up being a great success, i'm happy to say!

Wow this looks really well done! Part of me thinks the light is flashing too fast though, but besides that this piece is great :)
m a s t e r f u l. my jaw dropped when I saw the full size version of this. such an effective way to bring the scene to life, and it makes SO much sense being that it is lit with a candle! I think the choice to use yellows and reddish / purples as the main components of the palette was a great choice. thank you for sharing and giving my eyes something to feast upon!
