So, guess this serves as an introduction as well...

Always loved the aesthetic of the art in games I enjoyed growing up, and playing Dwarf Fortress made me want to make some of it for myself.

This represents a both a first art and first animation, as well as a first post. Hope to learn a lot more to make it past 17 x 17 art and start making things the eye can distinguish within the next year. Any pointers and criticism to help that goal is greatly appreciated. Also would love some advice on daily/weekly challenges or practice that I can do to help out. Not only new to pixel art, but pretty new to art in general.

Thanks,

Tommie

I agree with both of you. It is honestly a bit embarassing. When I was creating it and working with it, the frame rate was about half of what is shown and it was on a black background. However, I didn't preview the export before posting, so I didn't realize it was what I posted. Turns out I didn't realize the second tab of options in my version of Krita that would have changed all of that.

I also did refine it a bit on my own, and agree, the black outline added a pop that was needed. There was also the addition of the end frames where he sets the pick to his side, and wipes his brow. May share that on a separate post later.

Again, thank you for the feedback, it was very much appreciated. Sorry it took so long, if you take a look at my rank, you'll realize why,

Yeah, I'm in agreement with Hap - it could be a lot slower. Also, the axe doesn't seem to have much weight to it, on account of how fast the animation is. You probably want to add a frame or two to the animation of him picking it up after the swing, to make it look heavier.

Welcome Tommie! This is quite nice, but I think you can slow it down just a bit.

More importantly, for the challenge you are required to have a transparent background. Perhaps he looks good with a black outline too?
