Jorge Borges, the blind librarian poet of Buenos Aires, is hands-down my favorite author. His games with mirrors, labyrinths, and infinity hold a lasting appeal for me.

If you've never read anything of his before, I'd recommend taking twenty minutes to find and read some of his short stories. My favorites include "The Library of Babylon", "The Garden of Forking Paths", and "The Shape of the Sword."
