This piece is very unique for two reasons.
First is its large color palette. It uses all 32 colors of the DB32 palette. The colors are used in a way that it looks messy and and random zoomed in, yet they all come together when zoomed out. This shows just how well crafted this palette is. As I worked on this piece, I became intimately familiar with each color and the role they play. There was always a color that worked exactly the way that I needed it to, and it even left room for color nuance (notice how Layton's shoes are slightly greener than his pants).
Second is the timeframe in which I made it. Professor Layton and Luke were created in 2017, while the Laytonmobile behind them was created in 2020. You can clearly see how my ability to make my pixel art look cleaner and crisper has evolved. The reason for this was, back in 2017, I simply could not figure out how to design the car using this unique pixel art style, I simply did not have that skill yet. I have always kept this piece in my pixel art folder, and over the years I've looked at it and told myself that I would finish it. Now, I finally have.
This piece has been three years in the making. I hope you enjoy! |
I've clicked all over, but I just can't seem to find a hint coin!
