I guess I still suck at AA :P

It does look nicer than just the red and white outline. Also, is the fact that it only looks like 3 colours (apart from the gradient background being a tad shoddy) not a compliment to the AA? As in, it looks like white on red rather than white, pink and light red on red?

That's really strange. At 1x i really thought there was only 3 colours. Once zoomed 4x i can see the AAing and such. It seems none of it works to improve the image at 1x. You could easily do this with 5 colours. Red, grey, white and an AA from red to white and white to grey. If you wanted the background gradient to be really smooth, then you could add another colour perhaps. I think 8 is a tad wasteful for something such as this. And your colours are not widespread enough across the palette. I hope to see an update.
