As far as pixelart software goes Aseprite comes highly recommended from my colleagues, and the Lospec website has a handy reference list for software (https://lospec.com/pixel-art-software-list). I'm a dinosaur who stumbled onto GraphicsGale though, and I'll stick with that to my grave.
As for post-processing I usually use either Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop as well for a quick hue/saturation/brightness/contrast double-check.
Christoballs: Haha, yeah I've gotten an urge to do more pixel art lately. When the new ISO collab starts up I'll be interested in joining in on that. And thank you!
StevenM: Thank you! I had some palette issues where the colours looked different after I uploaded it to PJ. I think I fixed it in Photoshop, but I dunno. They feel a bit desaturated still and I'm unsure what to do about it. Maybe I should move on to another pixel art program than GraphicsGale. I don't really know which is best, or if I should just use Photoshop. Hm..
Hapiel: Thanks!
Waiiit a minute, we have a new piece from Mirre for the weekly challenge? Awesome!
The rendering of the wings is exquisite.
A nice palette overall, smart use of yellow hue as highlight for all ramps, nice display of highlights. Each graphic clearly conveys the character and elements without accidental obfuscation. I like the subtle shadow conveyed under the top half of the wing on both 64x64 and 32x32 sprites.
Lovely design, brimming with classic Mirre charm! Going from Graphicsgale to Aseprite helped tremendously for me! Very much reccomended.
