Such a fun piece! It's been a long time since I've played the original game.
This is fantastic. I'm not in love with the old Maniac Mansion style anyways, I dropped playing TP midway (and I'm an adventure games freak), if it was like this, I wouldn't.
I don't think there was ever a Lucas Arts game that I played without a guide. Those games easily devolve into a hair-pulling, pixel-hunting, item-combining psychological torture. 
That stray pixel is 100% intentional - it's one of the Specks of Dust you can pick up throughout the game :D Bit of an easter egg for those that played the game.

this is great. I liked the animated version on twitter as well. There does seem to be one stray white pixel under the gate, not sure if that was intentional
i started a new playthrough recently, and the banding is more jarring than i remembered, had to come look at this again to cancel it out
