Since this current pandemic started, I've been interested in looking back at art made in response to events like the Black Death, such as the danse macabre motif, or memento mori.

Image based on Hans Memling's wonderful Earthly Vanity and Divine Salvation.
Title comes from the toad placed on the cadaver's groin in the original painting.
