This creature is based on an idea I had while staring into the the moat around the old city of Kotor, Montenegro, and daydreaming about all the spooky things that might live around there in the castle, the caves, the moat...

It's really weird to come back to my first piece two years later and see what kind of progress I've made. Those of you who're starting out, you'll be amazed to see how fast you improve if you stick with it.

Very nicely done. It's like a gillman with a humanoid skull head, awesome.
Hm, Kotor? Been there the previous year, some places kinda really look like something's gonna jump out of the water and snatch you O_o Good shading, good posture, me likes :)
Thank you! Funny you should mention the foot; in the original drawing, I noticed it was maybe the best foot I've ever drawn! Ha. Feet are always one of the hardest parts for me, for some reason.
Thanks for the comments, everybody! This is my first attempt at a piece this big and detailed, and I'll definitely keep everybody's feedback in mind for future projects. If anyone's interested, my original drawing that I started with is here: http://www.manningkrull.com/illustration/color/moatmonster.asp (but of course, I drew the above piece pixel by pixel, just using the drawing as a reference).
I like it a lot! The feet, face and upper arm muscles in particular. I think the top hand gets a little lost in the lightsource, but otherwise a fantastic piece!
I'm not so sure about the lightsource, or lack thereof, but this is an otherwise fantastic piece. Had a look at the pixelart on your site as well, great stuff.
