@gawrone: wow, such a high praise, thanks man! yes, it is indeed halo, i quite exaggerated it and tried to make it as ominous as i could :]]
at first i planned to put there just a disk to mirror the top part of the image like on the bottom right thumbnail here: https://humanworlds.org/_temp/img101%20-%20Copy.jpg but it felt too flat, so i went with planet and halo instead.
i'm sure the alternative version would benefit greatly from higher colour count. i might give it a try later.
This background, those colours on that radiation halo or whatever it is, and the star/planet surface itself, to me are exampels of a supergigantic skill.
(I wonder how would you use the palette with the alternative version, but I'm not forcing anything of course)
Awesome use of light and colours. The stripey colour shift in the sky is specially striking! Fantastic continuation of your series too!
really beautiful effects here... the lighting on the helmet/glass is elusively striking
thank you! yeah i'm trying to keep it in line and recognizable
great mood, and the interlaced rainbow background is beautiful
thank you!
