A depiction of a scene from a tabletop RPG playtest I was spectating.
"Having fallen under the sway of a malevelent and otherworldly force, Isaac stands before the terrible zeal of the cult of a forgotten saint - who commanded his adherents to purge all ungodly things in the flames of sanctified napalm.
Though undoubtedly having been corrupted by this creeping taint, Isaac faces his would-be assailants to protect his friends who have done nothing to deserve such a fate. His distorted shadow casts images of the reaper."
There's a lot going on in the image, that I tried to capture within the framework of what was happening in the narrative that inspired it. The clouds appearing as teeth in the sky, the crashed van, the ethereal blue butterflies casting off of Isaac's shadow were all part of the goings on. The imagery painted by our GM was iconic, to put it lightly.
A lot of this is pushing well past my comfort zones, and attempting to work with colors/ sizes/perspectives that I am completely unused to, and deliberately shooting for a somewhat grittier, unpolished look - I didn't think that I'd hit the mood I was shooting for if i'd been overly aggressive with AA or 'neat' clusters and shapes.
No excuses for the off-kilter anatomy, though
I did what I could for the sake of palette efficiency; used more colors than I truly wanted to. I wanted the fires to really pop against the darker backrounds, but In retrospect there are a number of things I should have approached very differently. That's experience for another work, however! |
Absolutely epic scene! Great colours, mood and storytelling
