@ReffSQ:
hanks a lot, glad you recognized the style :)
Also cool to know you enjoyed it.
@Asfodela:
Yes as Artwork, or just the design alone could work in a game of course :)
This is astounding.
I haven't been around pixeljoint too much, but I instantly recognised this was you from the thumbnail.
I can't stop looking at this
@Mis-Bug: it doesn't sound silly at all, as there really was a lot of consderation with the fog. It's something I usually can't do if I am making games, as all assets need to work cutted in their own pieces, but here as artwork I could experiment with it. I repainte dit also a couple times that it just came out right.
Cool to hea rthat you had a lot of fun exploring, I put a fair bit of obscure detail in :).
@Geonjaha
I am just doing it for so long, that i accumulated lots of experience. At this point it's reall about finding time to make finished pieces. If you have the time and the mindspace it's really nice and stuff like this is possible :)
Oh I'm aware of the limitations! But I was thinking more like a still illustration within a game, say, like a card, part of a bestiary, a still frame of an in-game event, that sort of thing, rather than an animated sprite
Incredible as always. There's a lot of details that I like about this but probably for how silly it may sound the fog on the ground is what enthralls me the most; such a clever way to add detail on the floor, grounding the character in a smooth way and at the same time doing also storytelling of the scene. And the design choices, the shield, the shin guard hanging by a thread, the drapery... ah... this illustration is a joy to explore...
@Asfodelo: Thanks a lot, I am glad you like it.
Sadly gameart usually needs to be way lower quality, as it needs to work as animated sprites and all the perspective and effects need to work within tilesets or levelbuilding restrictions. I mean the concept could be translated to a game, but keeping a similar quality outside of an artwork would be close to impossible.
@Trigonomicon: Yup, and if it comes to skeletons I also really like the wheel skeletons and dead kings / liches :) But htis is just normal basic skeleton :)
@Shm31: so basically everything. Glad you enjoy it so much.
@Quiara: the fog came in last and was quite hard to just get right. I did it multiple times, but I am really happy with the final outcome :)
@redmilion: THanks a lot. Glad you like the colors.
@Panda
THanks a lot for your kind words. Glad you like it :)
Absolutely stunning work! Love the atmosphere, the textures, those tiny details and the subtle colours. Would love to see this in a game
@FLinigan, I wanted to get it done in January, but think it's a February piece. I don't know, both is possible :)
Amazing work! I too am a big fan of round shield + scimitar skeletons.
Everything about this scene is great, love the use of the palette, the undead fella, the details on his armor, the fog, the cobwebs, the draps over the pillars, I could go on and on o/
The best part here, imo, is not the beautiful crispness or the intense detail, but the way the fog here is at once totally loose clusters while also being totally soupy and goopy.
10 /100 , es realmente muy bueno, y esos colores son muy preciosos
A complete masterpiece. This could be the #1 pixel art of 2022 it's that good. Insane level of detail
Simply incredible, the amount of detail is superb. This piece is such a treat to look at!
Thanks a lot CELS, glad you enjoy it so much. Yes it's kinda hard to polish those huge pieces up and takes a lot of time. But luckily have some on my hand now.
Like I said on Twitter, this just feels like a milestone and a seminal piece to me. It's very special to see such a huge and complex piece with so many different techniques and still retaining that delicate, crisp quality that you usually only see in much smaller pieces. Very selective use of AA and dithering, awesome use of 48 colors and color ramps. Incredible.
@Taks
Yeah the creeping spooky fog was really fun to create, even though if really hard. Glad you enjoy it :)
@Chris, thanks a lot :)
DId you notice the face on the grieve looking down? ^^
@EdnodiusGrenius
Thanks, glad you enjoy.
