This is a pixelart render based on a prior concept edit I made for the fluted helmet of Demon's Souls from Fromsoft.
 
The goal was to get rid of some fatal design flaws which heavily compromise the usability of this particular helmet in a real life situation and would endanger the wearer, while keeping the purely visual aesthetic intact.

I guess this is so nerdy and niche, that not many people will get much excitement out of it. But I love those details in conceptual design - and I love armors. Maybe appreciate the pixels :)

@Asfodelo: I think the conceptual part is an integral part of art, especially more so for anything which has to do with games. I mean sure, not every art direction needs tons of in-depth concepts. But II generall yenjoy it if someone took the time to think about those things.

@Wakimojo: that's cool to know. I think all the details have soem kind of deeper effect, but it's hard to say how the effect is on someone not really deeply into the topic.

@ink - yes, I decided to go to white mirror finish for this one - seemed appropriate, as the suit uses fluting, which would be highly difficult to craft.

I am sharing a couple of those things I learned over the years, as I think it's quite interesting. Niche I mean that it's just kinda obscure stuff you probably wouldn#t think about. But I agree that it's pretty cool to know a few of those things, as they can have some impact on the way a design will come together.

Definitely nerdy, hopefully not niche! This piece looks fantastic (both concept and rendering), and the doc is a really handy reference that I've bookmarked for the next time I'm working on armor design.

I gave that document a read, pretty consise and to the point, liked particularly the passage about the eye slits, I guess making an armor that makes the wearer aesier to blind is not a great feature x)
