I created the tilesets and backgrounds ONLY.

The main ship, enemies, HUD and title screen were created by someone at Wayforward.

OMG!!! I have that game. This is so freaking cool.

I personally like the Cathedral and Battleship levels. Awesomeness.

And if it's not too much of a personal question: How did you end up working on this? I mean did you just show up at their office with a resume, or did they show up at your house? And  about how much money did you make from this? You don't have to give an exact amount, just a ballpark estimate from "Can't even by a loaf of bread" to "I'm stinking filthy rich". Because honestly I would LOVE to do something like this for a living.

This was an interesting idea for a game a ShmupRpg. I have it and I must say it pisses me off when it gives you an impossible level (Yes it does happen). YOur tiles look very nice, better than most in the game.

2halfDemon: Set amount per tileset.

halfDemon (Level 6 Hitman) at 9/17/2006 2:41:00 PM

@Atooi: Oh, it's a fun game. I'm just a weird person. I just randomly drop games even if they're excellent. But sometimes I pick them back up and pass. Which I (eventually) plan to do with Sigma.

By the way, I'm just wondering if you got paid just a set amount, or does the payment take into account the game's earnings on the market.

Just goes to show that everyone sees things differently. I think the city is the best colored, detailed and most dynamic

ps: Yes Atooi the logo, sprites and GUI do not match the quality of the tilesets and BGs.

Ooh, that's a proffesional game! Can you really post it here? It's a real work of beauty. So smooth... if I ever get a GBA I'll get this game.

Great job! Nice tiling and style! (^_^)
I don't like only city background. It's not so good as others.

DJD (Level 4 Button Man) at 9/14/2006 5:47:53 PM
I died so many times getting distracted by the fluidity of the tile/background scheme. Damn your talent man, amazing job.

Jailbird/Booze Design (Level 1 Rookie) at 9/14/2006 3:09:24 PM
Looks very smooth, excellent pixelling!

Atooi (Level 5 Soldier) at 9/14/2006 1:00:00 PM

Sweet mother of mercy, holy balls and sweet baby Jesus, you guys are too nice... and fond of religious exclamations! :) Thanks for the kind words everyone!!

Yeah, nvision, I agree. The city tileset is probably the weakest. It would have been nice to have added more aspects that make it feel like a lived-in city, like people, bridges, fountains, etc. It looks a little fake what with the buildings just sitting on the platform. Oh well, next time.

I'm not sure if the backgrounds and tilesets are the best items, but I really appreciate you saying so jalonso. :)

I love you too Badassbill.

I am honored to be your first fav, Crylar.

No hard feelings halfDemon - I just produced some artwork for the game. :) It is a pretty decent game though - worth playing in my opinion. I enjoyed playing through it.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 9/14/2006 8:54:22 AM
The BGs and tilesets are the best items. Maybe too good for the other items?

Crylar (Level 4 Murderer) at 9/14/2006 12:31:33 AM
Super sexy pixelwork.
I really like the colors you used for the Forest, Alien planet and the 'Ghost town'. Really inspireingwork, thanks for giving me my first fav here.

nvision (Level 3 Corporate Drone) at 9/13/2006 9:39:51 PM
I'd say the background work is the strongest work in these shots...in particular, that cave bg has an excellent sense of atmosphere and lighitng.  The city bg on the bottom left seems to be the weakest of these, though....not really consistent with the level of quality in the others.  Great work overall!

joseph_ch (Level 2 Kukyu) at 9/13/2006 8:09:23 PM
wow this game looks amazing.  even though they tile, its very hard to tell when scrolling through it.  fantastic work here.

BlackDragon (Level 10 Capo) at 9/13/2006 5:51:57 PM
The only words that come to mind are: Holy balls. You're totally kickass.

HMC (Level 5 Killer Klown) at 9/13/2006 4:41:31 PM
WHOA. This is a real game.

halfDemon (Level 6 Hitman) at 9/13/2006 4:23:01 PM

Wow. I wondered who made those amazing pixelations. To be honest... I never really passed the game. No hard feelings?

Seriously, though, excellent work.
