Based on a painting whose author I wasn't able to find. It reminded me of my grandfather who passed away 6 months ago. Even though he was forced to retire in his 40s, he continued working all his life, up until his body didn't let him. He was the hardest worker I've ever met.

It also reminded me of myself as a child, who would grab books from my parents' shelves and read about anything that peaked my curiosity. I remember being around 8 years old, opening an encyclopedia and spending hours reading about all sorts of topics, from dinossaurs to greek and norse mythology, to pirates, ships and animals. And so, for this challenge, I thought this would make an interesting entry, a sort of "feast for the mind".

Edit: Updated the preview animation. It was rather late when I uploaded the file, and skipped a frame by mistake.

Very personal and emotional work. Love the transmited mood achieved with the animation preview. Thanks for share with us your beautiful memories. We need more meaningful works like this ^^

Thank you very much, it means a lot, coming from you. :)

I'm still very much a newbie, but this piece was a fun learning experience for sure.

Lovely work Korban.

Korban (Level 3 Dodo) @ 5/10/2022 10:47

Thank you, I appreciate it. It ended up being somewhat of a cross between a portrait of my grandpa and a self-portrait, almost as if my and my grandfather's image blended together into one subject. It was good motivation to keep working on it, that's for sure.

Beautiful work and I love your interpretation and story for this.

@CELS Thank you, that means a lot. This challenge's palette is really nice and was fun to work with!

@TofuPxl Thank you! It was a good way for me to not focus too much on the reference and try to go for something different. I'm glad it worked out ok.

CELS (Level 7 Lotus) @ 5/6/2022 04:13

Really cool. Amazing colors, very much a feast for the mind and so different from most of the pixel art people do. One of my faves of 2022 so far.

TofuPxl (Level 3 Litter) @ 5/5/2022 19:13

very nice, love the colours especially on the legs
