Thanks so much tobikohiro! I used the pixeljoint tool and apparently I have 38 colors. It's definitely too many, I'll rework it to limit the pallette.   

And thanks for the suggestion! I agree it should have something else in the background, after all. Filling out backgrounds is something I struggle with a lot, I've noticed. Perhaps I'm too lazy to commit to put something worthwhile into them. 

Looks like a cool creature, I would try to make the background less flat maybe with monocolor tree outlines or something if it's in a rainy swamp
