Yep, this is a fully justified use of mixels.

I hadn't thought of it being pixellated since it's a pixel artist soul I think that's the most clever explanation by far 

Thanks tobikohiro. Few reasons: To emphatize the soul is made of pixels, becasue it's the soul of pixel artist. Also, the difference makes an illusion that the dark souls item base is not pixel art but "real" base from the game, meant to hold the pixelated version of the soul. Also, it's a humble, not proud knight pixel artist, so it's simplified. Also, it imitates being censored which somehow relates to modesty. Also, because it looks cool. 

I'm pretty sure you would find some other examples of reasons and I would say "yes, you are right, I wish I thought of that" ;)

I like this a lot for it being "quick" I do want to know though what made you decide to use enlarged pixels? Make it stand out from the platform?
