Learning pixel art via the tutorials. Used a reference photo. Blocked out the shape. Made my own color ramps starting with mid grade colors selected from reference photo for the black and the brown. A third I made up for leg brown when I noticed it was redder than the rest if the brown on the body and tried to intersect this ramp with the black but had no idea what I was doing (I matched the saturation and lightness of one of the darker blacks but changed the hue to make it 'redder')... Decided on lighting direction. Didn't know what I was doing but used reference photo to attempt to understand how the light would fall on different parts of the body. Placed the background legs relative to the photo weight-wise but brought them down to an even 2D plane with the foreground ones. Uhh... that's about it.
