It's 36 frames and maybe something like 500 layers.
Why, because the dust and shards I animated separately (2 dust clouds, many different glass bits) then arranged on top of everything else, each instance of glass crumbling or dust puff has its own layer. The 8-figure and the sand flow upwards were sketched beforehand, the rest was more improvised.
I have learned a shitton making the effects for this game, I'll upload more examples.
