@Helm: Thank you very much for the kind words. If you ever do more pixel critique videos, I'd love to submit something (though I don't use Twitter). I hope you post more on here in the future and that you have a merry Christmas!
Squirrelsquid I still love the art ;)
a new Helm piece? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your kitchen Pixel Joint?
Oh wow–it's exciting to see you post a new piece here! I used to lurk on Pixelation arond 2006–2009, and you were a huge inspiration. The way you think about pixel art has massively influenced the way I'm trying to learn. I've got a long way to go, but your old posts are still a wonderful resource for those of us beginners who know about them.
As for the image, I love the chunky forms and the way you've rendered textures within the 2 colours per 8x8 cell limitation. I really like how you've drawn the twin moons. I'd never have arrived at that specific solution, but it looks so natural and has produced genuinely round shapes which can clearly be seen when you reduce the image size. There's some really neat, subtle shading at the edges of the cells in the middle of the image too.
But that even a single person (you) is keen on more of that is making me think about it.
