Just a little afterwork doodle to test 8-12 colors also wanted to simulate some depthness using different dithers I made different Versions in 8, 10 and 12 colors. I think 12 colors are working best.

The sense of depth has been really striking in your last few uploads, really shows how much work must go into the backgrounds.
