I saw the longplay that was linked earlier just to get a good view of the sprites at the time. I never personally got to experience the AMIGA days, just the early 98ROM days more or less, but golly do they look very clean. This type of art always fascinated me since I was a kid, so being able to see it in motion (and to see the artist still active) is very inspiring.
Ok, now I feel a little old, but thank you very much. ;) The diamonds of course came in 4 colors and the backing plates came in different colors but all were kept very dark so as not to reduce the power of the color of the lasers.
Fascinating to see the type of gorgeous work put into things just a year before I was born. Lovely linework, and gorgeous color choices :)
Yeah, some coding magic stuff let it run on any Amiga (also 1200 etc.) :D You can watch an Amiga walkthrough on WOL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4BgnTfAooU or the same on Ironclaws channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI-x2BORE_8
Oh, I wasn't aware there were any games that used EHB in the actual gameplay.. that's pretty cool :)
Thanks a lot :) , the difference between the surfaces was a bit easier on the PC-Version. On the Amiga-Version we had to work with "Extra Halfbright Mode". Which meant I could choose 32 colors, and the other 32 were automatically generated by the Amiga.
These are really cool.. I like the gem-vs-metal-vs-matt texture in particular :)
You can even get some of the games on several Websites, but I guess you will need software that can start .ADF format for example. You might find some original games for Amiga on http://www.amiga-arena.de/ (site is only in German). I would say at this time it is more of a hobby for me. I am doing actual pixelart for a game, but this is just smaller project.
