Since January 2019, when I drew my first pixel art, I always wanted to make something epic, and always felt not ready enough. But recently I realised that such thought is illogical. There is never an end of growing. On whichever point of your development you will make an artwork, with full comitment of your current skill, you will most certainly find it terrible after some time. Such experience will feel exactly the same at the start of your journey, and when you will be a seasoned artist (I assume). Therefore, the only difference in outcome of stalling (argumented, that you need to wait to be more worthy), is having less artworks made.

Making this took me a lot of time. Committing to something such long term and living through it was a great experience and I wish I could repeat it soon. But it was also my first time thinking that something is great at the beginning, and already knowing all the ways in which it sucks, when I was finishing it. If I could call it "finished", but I can't. There are still lots of things that could be done to it, but this is the point when I decided to put the mouse away. I don't know exactly how long it took, but everytime I finished a long session, I saved the file with a subsequent number, and the last one was almost 50.

So, about this piece: Turquoise is unique. In the right context it can be warm or cool or both at the same time. With added red and gold, together they make a beautiful - almost split complementary - colour scheme, which is full of richness, but also life, pain, wisdom, mistery or calmness... lots of both wonderful and terryfying things. And that's all I can or want to say, becasue I'm terrible at titles. Maybe someone could help?

Inspirations: Max Ernst, Tadeusz Brzozowski and lots of Death Metal covers ;)

I never wrote that much about my stuff so another achievement unlocked.

Love the contrast you established between the beauitul turquoise sky and the hellish scenario filled with nightmarish figures

user
warpixel (Level 3 Stalker) @ 3/29/2024 09:34

I'm still such a fan of this. So much inspiration! This is some Dan Seagrave type stuff!

user
XanGar (Level 2 Flatfoot) @ 8/29/2023 18:04

This piece is 666x666 cool detail

user
hby (Level 5 Elder Thing (The Mountains of Madness)) @ 8/27/2023 22:20

Holy cannoli, this is completely amazing!

user
dtch (Level 2 Churros) @ 8/2/2023 10:57

I love the colour of the piece. It feels very much like a renaissance painting. Also gives me some DmC (2013) vibes.

gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/19/2023 06:52
@Malleys, thank you very much!

user
Malleys (Level 4 Peony) @ 7/19/2023 06:49

Incredible piece and wise words

Do It!

user
Trigonomicon (Level 10 Archaeropteryx) @ 7/18/2023 17:11

Very cool work. I especially focus on the meat goo at the bottom which remind me of old War of the Worlds-illustrations that have haunted me since childhood.

Also, you have a really good point about how you sould stop waiting until you're "good enough" to start your big piece. I should act on that sometime.

user
Reo (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 7/18/2023 04:38

Hey you sure did! If I was to highlight something else it would be the vibrant colors of the sky and how pleasantly they go together. Will be very fun to see where you take this stuff next.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/17/2023 04:57

@Luca, there could be no better reward, than a comment like this. Yes you are right, meaty bodies were much more difficult, but also much more fun to draw, than skeletons.

user
Mune (Level 2 Tulip) @ 7/17/2023 04:49

This is insane!

user
Luca (Level 5 Trash) @ 7/17/2023 01:32

Also the patience to draw all these skeletons, jesus f christ. One of the most tiring ones imo xD

user
Luca (Level 5 Trash) @ 7/17/2023 01:31

Good stuff. From time to time there come works that we can consider a pretty clear level ups in terms of skill. This is your level up, for sure. Great gore, great mystique, great colors. Well done!

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/17/2023 00:42

Thank you @LaersoR

user
LaersoR (Level 3 Dryad) @ 7/16/2023 04:14

Awesome job!

Glad you like it.

user
olive (Level 4 Peony) @ 7/14/2023 09:18

absolutely insane

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/14/2023 08:46

@chacmool321 No! Don't look there! There is nothing interesting there.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/14/2023 08:44

@rogue_frog Thank you! I'm aware that none of any similar modern pictures, and all the less modern before them, would even exist without Bosch and Bruegel. Even if the inspiration is not direct, or is in some kind of unconscious way, it most certainly is undeniable.

user
chacmool321 (Level 4 WEBELOS) @ 7/14/2023 08:26

666x666 canvas size hmm

user
rogue_frog (Level 4 Deputy) @ 7/14/2023 08:21

This is excellent, it reminds me of Bosch but with much more modern knowledge/inspiration!

Really stellar texturing techniques.

I'm happy you took the time to make this!

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/14/2023 07:14

@Theoden, I guess I will start another one right away. See you in few months

The title slams! \m/

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/14/2023 07:11

@Irena, thank you!

user
Theoden (Level 11 Special Agent) @ 7/14/2023 07:01

Amazing work man. It took me minutes of zooming in to take all the details in.
Definitely has that Death Metal album cover vibe :)
I can even see the title of the album: Pillars of Decay.

The time you put into this has definitely payed off.
I am glad you finished and shared this gem with us, now we want more :)

user
Irenaart (Level 10 HP Lovecraft (Author)) @ 7/14/2023 06:30

Wow,... I think that this will go straight to the top 10. This is amazing my friend! And the palette is just awesome.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/13/2023 23:14

@Night, your comment means a lot to me, because I have found your equpix15 as most inspiring and joyful to use, among all of the palettes that I have encountered so far.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/13/2023 22:21

So I impressed Reo... That makes one item from my bucket list checked off.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/13/2023 22:18

@Space-Age Wrangler, thank you very much for your meticulous and favorable appreciation. And also, I was aware but your other observation is true. I guess I had been having more challenge/collab activity couple of months ago. I guess you cannot hide anything from the internet.

user
Night (Level 7 Neanderthal) @ 7/13/2023 13:43

Great stuff, I really enjoy the colour scheme!

user
Reo (Level 11 Sphinx) @ 7/13/2023 07:27

Very cool piece, the gore-landscape is especially impressive!

user
Space-AgeWrangler (Level 8 Queen) @ 7/13/2023 05:14

Awesome! I like how you managed to give the branches those twisting forms even through they're made of so many little bodies. The textures and transitions are all great too, and there's some nice changes as you "go up" the tree, sorta makes It seem like the top parte is the oldest, which is cool.

I wondered a couple of months algo why we didn't see that much new art from you, I guess now I know.

Personally, based off your title I would have called It Not Safe For Art.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/13/2023 03:15

That makes the mission accomplished. Thank you!

user
ZapWo (Level 3 Topaz) @ 7/13/2023 00:29

Epic piece!

bluexel (Level 6 Tsathoggua (The Horror in the Museum)) @ 7/12/2023 23:35

amazing piece!

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/12/2023 23:04

@MrQuetch, thanks! You gave an idea for a title "Tell me that you are absolutely insane, without telling me that you are absolutely insane", but it is too long.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/12/2023 22:55

Thank you @Squirrelsquid!

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/12/2023 22:23

@cure, you have no Idea how you made my day. Studying how you practice and theorise art was a huge part of my growing process here on PJ, and now, having you "read my mind" through my drawing gives me an ambivalent feeling of unworthy and well earned at the same time.

user
gawrone (Level 11 Pixeljoint) @ 7/12/2023 22:02

@Umbohr, what can I say, it's a kind of a hellish landscape ;)

My friend, I love your works so your comment means a lot.

user
MrQuetch (Level 6 GBC) @ 7/12/2023 19:53

This is absolutely insane and stunning! I love the colors... Job well done! This really inspires me.

user
Squirrelsquid (Level 4 Rubbish) @ 7/12/2023 19:40

Wow, it's huge!

excellent piece.

user
cure (Level 11 Pixellite) @ 7/12/2023 15:56

I was just thinking it looked like a heavy metal album cover by Max Ernst. Very fun and terrifying.

user
Umbohr (Level 7 Merfolk) @ 7/12/2023 14:50
I loled at the size.

Fantastic stuff gawrone, you were definitely right to tackle such an ambitious piece right away. It's great!

Inspiring
