My submission for tile #30 in the mISOlogy collab!
Awesome palette by Morganne!
I visited the shrine on Miyajima years ago and really enjoyed the visit. The torii there is famous, being both quite large and built into the beach so it looks like it's floating on water during high tide. Torii are meant to symbolize the border between "earthly" realms and "spiritual" realms in Shinto mythology, so I decided to metaphorically revisit the shrine and sketch the base of a gate floating in water for this tile.
Also included: a mermaid wearing a kimono, a school of fish (two of which are in a typical Yin/Yang or Pisces-type pose), the head of a kappa floating in the water, and three fairies styled after the ones in the Legend of Zelda games--the shrine I used for inspiration is dedicated to three Shinto goddesses, and "three goddesses" always makes me think of the Zelda series lol. |
Aw thanks, I'm glad you like it! Literally would not have been possible without your awesome mermaid tile lol
