I have no idea why I thought that a very modern AAA horror has something in common with a very retro, minimalist, "indie" gothic horror. Maybe they are both just great games.

The style of The Last Door is amazing. So beautiful and so technically intriguing. It is completely different approach from what I usually do as pixel artist.

It uses 1000% scaled pixels, on the canvas of 103x60. As I've read, it was not only an aesthetic choice but also artistic and conceptual one. It applies to all media that horror is more scary when you are not presented with everything clearly right away, but your imagination have to do all the work. In this pixel art resolution you have to imagine more than you see, and playing this game is more similar to reading a horror novel, than to playing a "realistic" horror game.

When trying to imitate this style, you care less about color limit, because colour of pixels here is the equivalent of pixel cluster shapes in bigger resolution pixel art. If you want to change shape of something, you change the colour of the pixel. Working in this style is more similar to stuff like this: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/marco-sodano_n_4388199

More parts will come, when I find the time to finish the game :)

You've created so much atmosphere with such a tiny canvas, incredible.

This series you made goes hard, although I've yet to play Alan Wake 2 (Epic exclusivity is a dealbreaker)

The Last Door has been unfortunately languishing in my 'to play' library on Steam for far too long; will need to change that asap, although currently playing Vampyr.

Love it :) "herald of darkness" lives in my head haha.

have you ever seen or played the Faith: the unholy trinity games? You might enjoy them for a similar reason to the last door. Recommend watching an LP Atleast. Has some crazy animated cut scenes too.

Super creepy mood. I love the lighting and cold colors.
And now I will have to check the ost out :)

I'm a musician myself, and I was blown away by this music so much. I really got obsessed. I bought digital albums to support the composer, and I was listening to it over and over, and actually, never stopped.

If I would have to choose my favorite piece, it would have to be a list of at least 10 :)

- Letter from a Friend (both versions - I use it as a reminder ring on the phone)
- House in Silence
- The Tragedy of Beechworth ( I use it as my wake up alarm)
- A Secret Deep Buried (this is kinda hidden gem - first half is a delicate cello melody, and then it rapidly turns into something unbelievable, just to abruptly end)
- Anna (starts nice, and from 0:30 those delayed notes hypnotize you)
- An Unveiled Path (very Zimmerish)
- Winter of the Past (sad just thinking about it)
- The Four Witnesses (piano version) (it has so brilliant melodies on the middle part from 1:00, and when you think it is such a mastery, it can't get any better, the part from 1:30 starts...)
- Alexandre
- The Scream (some reprises)

Oh, those are only from the first game? Than I would have to make another list... :)
