Since the vast majority of the background is a flat colour I don't think it's necessary to keep, it would be better if the page were edited with just the sprite cropped and added, but that's a personal opinion. Regardless of the background, the picture has a bitmap asset (the red/black orb) that's artificially inflating the colour count and also seems to be affecting the sprite's palette, adding extra colours where you might not have intended.
