A character design in pixel form for a game I long to create that's based very roughly on The Three Musketeers (the actual book) but where all the characters are various animals. The game isn't anywhere near even starting development but I've got plenty of notes and ideas that are piling up while I get ready for it...

Your shading to me borderlines on Pillow shading.  I would use a top lightsource.
