I had some other nice couples in mind, which I eventually shelved in favor of this one (find the list of my other ideas below).

So, this obviously is german dictator Adolf Hitler vs. Mr. Burns, the villain from Simpsons, sort of.

Hitlers part of the picture is inspired quite a bit by the Manowar album cover "Kings of Metal" (or, the Turrican title screen, if you want... *sigh*... sweet mem'ries :) as you might have guessed. He's holding a swastika shuriken and wearing some absurd super-villain costume (an idea that I came across during the pixeling) which I thought would be funny (especially the tight pants accenting his balls :). As the swastika is a sensitive thing to display at least in Germany, I hope this won't get me in trouble :).

Monty is doing one of his standard lines (directed at Smithers, outside of pictures boundaries), usually dedicated to Homer, to point out his typical egomaniacal narrow-mindedness and to add even more ridiculousness to the image. I know his origal fingers are more skinny, but I wanted the style to fit the one I used on Hitler (who I did first).

The blue and purple lighting I did for the mood and for fun, too (I'm not fully skilled in this yet, but it's something I'm really fond of, especially in gloomy and theatrical pictures :). Same goes for the shading style.

List of other couples I would have done if I had the time (I actually compiled it just for myself to note down my ideas, but after not making them into pictures I think it'd be a shame if I would simply dump the list, so here it is at least in writing :):

- The Brain (from Pinky & The Brain) vs. George W. Bush. The Brain maybe has a caption "Pinkie?! Is that you?" to indicate some confusable competencies :)

- Nelson Muntz (from Simpsons, sorta villain, too), incl. caption "Ha ha!" and pointing finger vs. Darth Vader, lying dizzy on the ground, halfly sitting up, holding his aching head with one hand. Stars circling around head, caption "Noooo!", because of having slipped on a banana peel (lying next to him). That's probably my favorite on this list :).

- Multiple Agents Smith (from Matrix) standing around, looking confused vs. the Alien Mindbender (from Zak McKracken, incl. noseglasses and hat, but with sunglasses) standing amongst the agents trying to "hide", using his noseglasses as "disguise" in order not be recognised . One random agent has a caption "Where the heck...?". The Alien Mindbender has his hands in his trousers' pockets and is whistling unsuspiciously (displayed by pursed lips and some notes rising up from it). I tried to think of a way to humorously incorporate the parallel about the phone stuff here, but nothing striking came to mind :(. Maybe something like an agent standing with one foot in a nearby phonebooth, picking up the dangling receiver, pointing at it and saying to the others (in a caption) "He got away... but what's that sound?!"

- HAL9000 incl. caption "Daisy, daisyyyy..." vs. Magica De Spell (from the Donald Duck comic series), having a pissed facial expression and caption "Naah... dumbass."

- Clubber Lang (bad guy from Rocky III, played by Mr. T) incl. boxing gloves vs. Sauron. Lang is looking around surprisedly, having a caption "What the... where's the ring?" and Sauron having a kind of answering caption "Yeah right, where... hey, how do you know?"

- Bill Gates vs. the evil Queen from Snow White (as depicted in the 1937 Disney version with purple cloak, white stand up collar and crown etc.). Queen is carring a basket with apples, at which Bill is staring scared

I hope you enjoyed (at least some of) them. Why, we could make this a new sport - describing pictures instead of pixeling them... ;) Feel free to use those scenes in your own contributions (though credits would be appreciated :).

I love the pink shading - the reflects from the sky?

I will translate LuX' comment: "Since you're a german why do you write English?" (I think you might have guessed so already ). I'm writing in English, because most of the community members very likely do not speak German. Übrigens Danke für das Kompliment (BTW, thanks for the compliment )

LuX (Level 1 Rookie) at 5/27/2007 3:35:13 AM
lol Wennst eh Deutscher bist warum schreibst du dann Englisch ^^? Dein Pixelwork ist geil <3 Super Idee =D 5/5

Love the edit. Thumb up.

Cool. I would give burns an old pistol, and give hitler a Nazi officers sidearm.

UPDATE: I added purple reverbation to the clouds and removed the black lines. Looks better than I expected Also added AA in several places.

@ Huggkrak: I absolutey (!) see where you're coming from, but in fact i did try to keep originality in mind. I remember an episode where Mr. Burns was trying to beat up some board member or such in some kind of meeting (don't exactly which episode). I remember he did so using a baseball bat (and of course failed). That's why I chose it.

Anyway, if I would replace it by an ancient kind of weapon, I think I'd give him a flail very probably. An epée would look to elegant I think .

Huggkruka (Level 1 Rookie) at 10/24/2006 1:34:21 PM
Burns's weapon of choice is a minor complaint I have. Baseball bats are for common nimcompoops, Burn's should swing a 500 year old epée or something. :D Otherwise this is a great piece, very humouros.

About the rabbits (forgot to mention) @ milkyjon: That's a gimmick I saw a while ago somewhere I think, and I adopted it as some kind of stylistic device I use quite frequently in my works (not in pixelart until now, though).

These ones with the red glowing eyes are a special version, called "Herrenhasen" or "Hitlerhasen" ("Hitler hares"), which he kept aside Blondie unnoticed by the public for some cuddly hours (in fact, Blondie was just the prestige-pet for the public image, but these ones where his privily lovies )... Ok, so much for the history lesson "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Hitler (But Were Afraid to Ask)"...

Thanks for all the comments so far Now all that's missing is for the picture to rise to the top of the list on the Pixelween-page :)

Maybe I'll try to improve it shortly, especially the purple reflection on the bottom side of the clouds as suggested by Gas 13 (I had thought about this myself already, too, but couldn't wait to post the piece). I hope I'll find appropriate colors, since I already adjusted the picture to 32 colors (saving a lot while creating and then putting all the rest into the copper sky eventually).

I really like this one and I whole heartedly agree that it deserves its place in the pixelween contest. I wasnt sure myself wether cartoons were allowed to be submitted but there has been one on the boards with the queen of hearts from alice and wonderland for ages and as I said in the very first post of the edward VS the mummy Edward scissor hands isnt a true villan. Hey what about Stayy puff marshmellow man vs tremors sand worm or the evil kid catcher off chitty chitty banfg bang VS chucky, gremlins or critters. Anyways enough of my rant....I really like the clouds and the floor reminds me of reayman raving rabbits off the wii somehow. And Mr Burns VS Hitler what an idea, true contest winner there if you ask me. Well done.

Brilliant work! I love the style - and the great little things you added, such as the Burn's quote. I think the lack of AA in many places is offputting for me though (being an AA freak as myself).

zAk (Level 2 Quiet One) at 10/24/2006 7:24:13 AM
I saw Hitler in a movie and how dare you not remember Treehouse of Horror????? Anyways - i guess thats too bad, still great piece... zAk

Gazza (Level 1 White Belt) at 10/24/2006 6:20:15 AM
Great job. It looks awesome.

Gas 13 (Level 9 Federal Agent) at 10/24/2006 5:44:22 AM
You could put some purple pixels on cloud bottoms to get a nice feeling of sunrise/sunset. Not sure if there's a way but avoiding pure black outline would help it look less... dirty maybe. Can't find the right word, sorry.

The face of Hitler shaded really well and I love the way you play with lighting.

As for the contest rules I remember the post by pixelblink at Pixelation describing the rules more clearly. Anyway it's a good piece.

Imagician (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 10/23/2006 11:42:23 PM
The rules do not explicitly imply that the villains have to be from movies. Hannibot and Robucula are not in movies, simply a "Zombie" isn't from a certain movie as well and Jack the Ripper isn't from a movie originally either, but was made into several. By the way, latter goes for Hitler as well (there are several documentary, narrative and fictional movies about Hitler, as well as for Jack the Ripper).

So, it's already in it's righful place -- the pixelween page

Jason_c_o (Level 1 Depressed) at 10/23/2006 11:25:41 PM
Too bad it doesn't count... I like it.

Ensellitis (Level 11 Sensei) at 10/23/2006 9:00:19 PM
no, it does not count for pixelween...

"You must state in your submission's description which 2 villians you have and what movies they are from"

neither have been in a horror movie...

although nicely executed, it wont be voted on for the contest

sk8m8trix (Level 1 Rookie) at 10/23/2006 6:56:49 PM
yes, i believe it has to be a movie, but i think its a little too billowly, but u got nice lineart

=^D Guy (Level 3 Enforcer) at 10/23/2006 6:37:58 PM

Huh? Are you sure that counts as a pixelween piece?
