"The royalty of green has long been slaughtered by the tides of fire emanating from ancient, sentient stars. Their most prestigious warrior, Vehement, was given every grace their people could give, and sent into the stratosphere to enact cosmic vengeance. With the determination of time itself, they plucked the inferno's heart like a harp string, now relishing in their own burning passion."
This piece I made a year ago and it still holds a special place in my heart. One day I'd like to fully animate this still image into a full length fight scene. Vehement, an original character by me, is not a hero. They are pschopathic in a lot of ways, but that's also what allowed them to be able to accomplish something like this in the first place. The juxtaposition of them not thinking about anyone but themself, and yet still singlehandedly saving their people. In a way, it makes them a force of nature, someting beyond the mortal coil. Miraculous, and yet terrifying.
Working off of that concept, I really tried to emphasize contrast in this piece, which I am happy with. I think something I personally struggle with as an artist is allowing for a piece to be easy to dissect and flow across. There is a lot of red in this scene when I play it in my head, but to actually create the visual effects of layering, the vast majority ends up being orange, which allows for the red to come out and pop. I also think the bones grasping the heart help the heart itself be more visually identifiable.
Suprisingly though, what I had the hardest time with was with drawing the aura effect surrounding Vehement, I couldn't decide whether to have the aura extend onto the bone, because it just consistently made the area too visually cluttered. And on that note, if you've read all of this and feel confident in your skills, please provide feedback! I especially want to get better at visual clarity in complex scenes.
