I don't agree that this "isn't even subpar". It's in line quality-wise with many of your other works.

I like some things but a few problems really bring it down. For one, the black line inside every shape is a little distracting. It is not necessary everywhere. Secondly, it would help to have more (and more noticeable) shading everywhere. Mainly,darker darks. But on the clothes you don't have much of a highlight.
What I do like is the texture on his (his) left arm. I think the piece would be better if you could continue that throughout the fur-covered areas. I also like his face.  : D
