this one is a bit more tame than my last one (although it does still feature cleavage and torn clothing >_>). i actually had to restart this one halfway through, initially i was doing it anti-aliased and i just... couldn't make it work. too many details, too many high-contrast boundaries, idk... I had basically given up on it and then decided to take a stab without bothering with AA, and it came out nicely.
The sun/moon/light orb in the background is there because it didn't quite read right without it -- a strong backlight was meant to be implied with the heavy rim lighting all over the piece, but without depicting the actual light source, it just looked kind of weird. if i were less lazy i'd have done a full background. as it is, it does look a little out of place without one, but whatever, it is what it is. (fun fact: i drew the circle of the light orb freehand, and am proud of how circular it is).
all that aside, i think the vibe of this picture is pretty cool, and am proud of her outfit's design (and overall character design i suppose), and... that's about it. i'm actually somewhat unhappy with much of the piece; parts look too flat (like the front of her jacket) and i don't really think the rim lighting quite works everywhere it's used. oh well.
i do think i learned some stuff while doing it (including the failed attempt), which i can't always say, so at least there's that. |
Brilliant
