You did everything perfectly. Just wait for a mod to wake up and get to a pc. Sometimes can take several hours ;)

besides posting a piece and link the album collab in the description, what do i need to do to get this beautiful drawing in my profile? :)

This is your description of my piece "rough outlines inside a small shape (which disturbs them feeling like a single three dimensional shape) and then shaded each of these shapes with simply adding light in the middle".

That is pillow shading. I agree :)

I can't help you if you don't see how your edit is overcomplicated, nor if you think reducing colours leads automatically to reducing complexity. I'm not critiquing the jaggyenes of the sketch, but the jaggyness of the way you randomly sprayed it with light, and this is what you intended to show me as a better way, so please don't try to manipulate. You did not "actually represented the shape", you disrupted the shape and twisted it, but I do believe you like it that way, and you have full right to do so. You made a nice painterly attempt, that could look great in the right circumstances. Your definition of pillow shading is probably wrong and maybe this is the problem. You think pillow shading = light in the middle. Which is not complete. Pillow shading happens when light is added in the middle, because of the inexperience and inability of the artist, regardless of the shape of the object and the direction of the light, or without any other reason (and probably this is not even full). I do not have light in the middle of the shapes but on the sides of it, (maybe you also can't localize the middle), and the light pattern creates a crescent shape for simplified readability of the overall shape.

I do expect criticism, and I'm very grateful for yours. I'm am not taking away your right to critique. It just so happens that I simply do not agree with this particular one, because you haven't provided arguments strong enough to convince me. If you will (or someone else will), I will change my mind, I promise you. If you cannot accept a rejection of your critique, than what is the point of critiquing in the first place? To have a win? Is this what you want? Are you a fighter? Is this a war of some sort? If so, than that is what I wouldn't like to see, so please take it somewhere else.

What I sent you is a rough sketch of how to actually represent the shape of the object you were trying to render , you criticising its jaggieness and flaws is pointing out the obvious and ignoring the bigger picture of it.

I do not see how my edit is over complicated as you have said , I even reduced some of your unnecessary colors.

And as for why I criticized you in the first place , it is not to show off. If you implement a pillow shaded piece into the website you should expect criticism. I just don't like to see that.

Your assumption of what I did is interesting, but wrong. On your attempt at reworking my pixel art, planes of metal do not have correct shapes. They do not look curved right but very flat in many areas and each is facing in a weird direction. You probably wrongly assumed that each plate of metal should be build on a cylinder, which is not correct. But even if so, you wanted to play with light so bad, that you completely forgot the readability of those simple shapes. This is not what I attended. Yours could be "realistic" if done correctly and on a bigger resolution, but make no sense on a small, gamey item. In the result, the closest sharp lighted pixels on your thing completely disrupts the shape and looks like a jaggy nonsense. Maybe it would look that way on a photo? That could be a cool thing. This trophy however is not adapting photo-realism to a low res pixel art.

You wrote that you defined something, where in actuality, when I look at it in 1:1 (which how it was intended to be viewed), I see no definition at all. Rather the opposite, and the only well defined thing I see there is the box - which I think you did not touch at all. Maybe you wanted to make it look like broken? It should be old but not that old :) (Sorry for the stupid joke, I'm not trying to be rude, but to relax the atmosphere). This never intended to be a realistic painting, because there is no place for that in the profile trophy collection. There is a right place for everything, and I hope you will find yours. Anyone of course can be a try-hard and show off on such tiny things, but then they will loose readability to only forcefully overdo the lightplay. I don't see any value in that, but you have the right to do so, and it is not my business. Please do it whenever you wish and I will be the first person to accept your works in the gallery and rate them highly.

I think that you really are trying to write a long novel about something very short and simple here, and in the end not noticing that you are killing a fly with a cannonball. Anyway, I feel very flattered, that this lighthearted thing made you so fiercely invested, that you even wanted to rework it to try to prove your point, where there is no actual point to be proven. I hope you at least had fun with it. I like your rework, it looks nice in some way, but wrong in the context of what it supposed to be. It could be used to teach how not to make game items, but how to have fun with small resolution, which is always very important. If you would like to give CC to my other works, please do so. I really like your approach, even it it was a misfire in this particular case. Peace!

What you have created is rough outlines inside a small shape (which disturbs them feeling like a single three dimensional shape) and then shaded each of these shapes with simply adding light in the middle , I don't know how you can't notice it being pillow shaded.

Here is a rough idea of what I mean to define the different planes of the shape , I feel like it automatically gives you a better metallic texture.

I still have to get a palette competition trophy to catch up with you

You are way too kind but it sure is encouraging I've got a few things in the pipeline and I'm really happy to be fully active again.

And hey, if you keep making trophies then I'll try to get them on my profile!

Dear SeDiceBisonte,  if this was enough to lure you back into discord, than I will have to do it more often.
We were all missing you and your pixels and you have made a great comeback with the April Fools already, so we want more!

@WreX No, I did not do any of the things you mention. But I am very grateful that you are trying your best to be helpful to others. This is what PJ is all about. Please never stop!

I hope that my explanation will be of any use if you care to get familiar with it.

This is a very small pixel art designed to be compatible with, and well readable among every other awards on our profiles. That is why outline-work is exaggerated. Pixel art (usually) is all about readability, unless you are trying to deliberately be fancy about how you break the rules for some artistic purpose (which I often love to do, but not this time - this one serves a specific function, and my personal artistic expression is not it).

Focusing on realistically portraying metal texture on surfaces of few pixels, on a cartoony little pixel art trophy, would make little sense here. But you are right that it could be a worthy challenge if one had such goal. You are also wrong with your application of "pillow shading". This is a simplification of how light reflects of the surfaces with such curves. I have specifically chosen a reference that will be applicable to such small, and clean pixel art. But I do understand, that someone might try so hard to learn that "pillow shading = bad", that it would lead to finding some resemblance here. But it is a good thing. Basic rules are very important, and it is never a bad thing to overfocus on them. And a muuuuch better thing than ignoring them without any reason.

Thank you for being interested in my pixel art, and for using your time to write your comment. I appreciate it very much.

Nice! Will have to get back on Discord to bag myself one of these

You overdefined the lines and pillow shaded inside them.

I feel like you could have accomplished a lot more of a convincing shape and a better metallic texture by just defining the different planes of the metallic part of the gramophone.
