To me this is when Faith No More peaked. On this album they mixed so many different genres* and still made it sound coherent. Name one band that could pull that off. When it is aggressive, it is more aggressive than anything, and the same when it is catchy, majestic or cosy. In my opinion the 90s were the most diverse and most groundbreaking decade for music, and if I had to choose only one album that sums it all up, for the aliens to understand, this would be it.

* Actually I will copy paste the list from Wikipedia: heavy metal, punk, big band music, blue-eyed soul, bossa nova, cocktail music, country, death metal, gospel, grindcore, gothic metal, funk, lounge music, Japanese noise music, jazz, power pop, salsa, swing music, thrash metal and western music.

Oh yeah, forgot about that! He's in Lett4Dead and Portal as well. Man of a thousand voices indeed!

He was also doing monster growl effects for the movie I am Legend

General Patton vs. The Executioners is one I still haven't got round to even though I've known about it for years. His catalogue really is huge. That Dillinger Escape Plan EP is great. People seem to rave about Tetema a lot these days. Another one of his I need to listen to!

I listen to a few prolific musicians but I think Patton is a harder to keep track of since he has so many projects and guest appearances (he even does backing vocals on the Björk album I'm still pixelling).

I love Angel Dust. Bunch of hits and a fan favourite. This one is to me the most refined and complete artistic masterpiece. I'm familiar with: Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, General Patton vs. The Executioners, and his appearance in John Zorn, Dillinger Escape Plan and Sepultura. I know this is less than a quarter of his work :)

Now this one I already know! I prefer Angel Dust and I have a soft spot for Album of the Year, but Faith No More are an excellent band. Are you a fan of any of Mike Patton's other projects? I love loads of his work (although I also enjoy Faith No More before he joined).

This has my favourite Faith No More cover art though, and this is a great version of it.
