Oh I didn't even realize this was a challenge entry, or what this week's theme was...sorry! Thank you for that explanation I can totally see your concept now though. I think it was a smart choice of you to apply it to such a known work and one littered with symbolism, really worked wonders. Well done!
@Reo @digitalCoffin:
The weekly challenge prompt had me curious to look him up on Wikipedia and read about him. His famous work, the Black Square, expressed his ideal to "liberate paintings from representational art" and began the Suprematism movement which emphasised just flat colors and simple shapes on paintings (modern art) .
I am aware that my drawing can be at opposition to Malevich's ideals but maybe with pixel art, there is some middle ground that can be settled in when it comes to these opposing art styles.
You can interpret this drawing as perhaps the white figure departing from this isle(which is representational art), taking with it the "Black Square" , hence the empty white square from the focal point of the drawing. Or maybe, the white figure seeks to fill this white square with the "Black Square" its holding, to complete the drawing and perhaps, unify these art styles together that can only be made possible through pixel art.
Oh please, you dont have to be sorry
The deliberate choice of adding symbolism in this was carried over from the previous weekly. Thank you for commenting on my art
